Position Summary

This position is responsible for managing, developing and maintaining software through the full life cycle process. S/He must have a proven track record of bringing product to market, which includes design, development, and production. The leader will drive quality, productivity and predictability in all that the team delivers. The successful candidate will be highly experienced in driving complex cross-functional software programs and must excel at effectively collaborating with team members across multiple functions.

Additionally, the candidate must be competent in effective management practices, including team alignment, building a solid management infrastructure and developing a pipeline of both technical and managerial leaders. S/He will also foster a culture of collaboration, initiative, innovation, and business results.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of software development and release – including design, implementation, integration, and verification. Develop processes in support of product quality.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional leadership team to establish the product vision and roadmap.
  • Drive the definition of software architecture and selection of technology platform(s). Collaborate with electronics and mechanical engineers to realize the product vision.
  • Establish and maintain the software development life cycle process in accordance with IEC 62304 and FDA regulations.
  • Develop appropriate software documentation, including specifications, modules, designs, schedules, and test procedures. Deliver the software portion of regulatory submissions.
  • May perform hands-on software development including firmware, user interface, data storage and management, communications/networking.
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor outstanding software talent. Support, maintain and document software functionality.
  • Maintain compliance as required by regulatory bodies and the company’s Quality System.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and/or Job Experience

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related Engineering discipline required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of leadership experience as a Director or Senior Manager of agile software development teams with more than one company in the medical device or diagnostic field
  • 10+ years of overall technology development experience as a software engineer or similar technical hands on position within software development, preferably within the medical device or diagnostic field.

Special Skills, Abilities, and Requirements

  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in building, or leading teams to build complex software systems in the medical device or diagnostics field.
  • Ability to drive multiple, critical initiatives at strategic & tactical levels across the portfolio
  • Familiarity working with a diverse technical team including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and life sciences.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams of software engineers and software test engineersStrong background in software engineering and programming. Track record in object-oriented design and C++. Firmware experience.
  • Hands-on development in C#/.NET and/or Java. Experience with web development, cloud-based applications, remote data access, etc. preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, team-based environment.
